- I still have too many programs that can't use the Vista programs as intended. Losing these or forcing me to upgrade is not an enhancement.
- Upgrading does involve risk, and I don't have a way to manage a back-up plan afterwards, with my existing back-up software. I have heard that Symantec will support Ghost 10 and later to save back up images of Vista.
- Scanners, printers, flashdrives, mice...I don't have a plan yet of what to do with the stuff that won't run Vista
So what do you do? I just bought my graduating senior a business laptop for college. He made a choice that he would rather have Windows XP Pro than Vista Business for his school work chores. I read on the Microsoft Site that Vista Business and Ultimate can "downgrade" to Windows XP pro, so I could have bought the Vista Business OS and downgraded it myself. Something is upside down with that plan, since getting the warranty service on a different OS may be an issue.
So for now, I am dealing with Infomation Technology in the simplest of all strategies-if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

I have decided to replace my also aging notebook as well. I found out that Dell Small Business offers the Vostro Laptops with Windows XP Pro and an Option to downgrade from Microsoft Vista or Ultimate-like upgrading in reverse. For $757 I purchased a new Vostro Notebook with:
• Intel® Centrino Core™ 2 Duo “Penryn” Processor, T8100
• 15.4 inch Wide Screen Anti-Glare XGA LCD
• 2GB RAM, DDR2, 667MHz 2 DIMM
• 128MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS Video Card
• 160GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
• Microsoft Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 2 Operating System
• Integrated 10/100 Network Card and Modem
• 8X DVD+/-RW Optical Drive with double-layer DVD+R write capability
• Integrated High Definition Audio 2.0 Sound
• Intel 4965AGN Wireless-N Internal Card
• 85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
• Dell Wireless 355 BlueTooth (2.0+EDR) Module for Windows XP
I added a USB Dock and Wirless Keyboard and mouse and still was under $1000 out the door. That was worth waiting for!
I found this Wikipedia link interesting. I believe that most of us regular folk probably were unaware of what was removed.
